The publication presents global and national prerequisites for the development of bioenergy. It outlines the history of the introduction, breeding, and cultivation of the species of genus Miscanthus as promising energy crops in Ukraine. The biological, morphological, ecological, and agronomic characteristics of miscanthus plants are described in detail. The book includes data on the biochemical composition of the plants, as well as their productivity and bioenergy potential. Special attention is paid to the breeding of miscanthus with the use of modern biotechnological methods. The book also covers the formation of planting material and criteria for its quality assessment. A complete technology for cultivating, harvesting, and processing miscanthus biomass in Ukraine is presented, along with specifications for biomass quality and solid biofuel derived from miscanthus. Information on the plant gene pool and the varieties developed in Ukraine is given. The economic efficiency of miscanthus cultivation and the use of its biomass for biofuel production is substantiated.
This monograph is intended for researchers, experts in bioenergy, entrepreneurs, post graduate students, and students of agricultural and biological disciplines.
